Health and Safety Policy

If you have five or more employees, it’s a legal requirement to have a written health & safety policy in place which sets out your approach, who does what, where and when. This needs to be carefully prepared so as to be fit for purpose and also communicated to your employees

Workplace inspections

Workplace inspections are a key part of good health and safety management and are part of the HSE model for managing Health and Safety (PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACT) allowing you to check that your workplace and work activities are healthy and safe. Workplace inspections can help to prevent incidents, injuries and illnesses, but can also identify specific hazards or processes that may not have been known or situations where planned control measures are not effective.
Requirements for health and safety inspections will differ from business to business. This will vary based on types and complexity of operations, competency level of workers or employees, actual levels of risk, number of personnel involved as well as the general attitude towards health and safety within the organisation.

The frequency of required inspections will vary and depend on the nature of the work. Inspections may be less often, for example, if the work environment is lower risk. However if there are workplace or specific activities that are of higher risk or where the working environment changing rapidly, more frequent inspections may be justified.

Accident investigations

Businesses are required to record all accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences that occur within their workplace or to their employees working elsewhere. In most cases, an accident report form is sufficient, along with maintaining an accident book. Its also good practice to record near miss events as well.

Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSiP)

For your preferred or chosen scheme (e.g. CHAS, Safecontractor, SMAS….) we will provide an expert guided support service, through provision of key forms and document templates as well as advice on any queries you have in relation to the relevant questionnaire or its completion. We can also undertake completion of the relevant questionnaire if desired to save you the time and hassle, and in doing so will first work with you to collect the respective evidence requirements. Also if you are a retained customer, you will have received a membership certificate from us to demonstrate you have a competent advisor available (a standard request for any SSiP member scheme) which is also a legal requirement. For your chosen application scheme (from start to completion), we will assign you a dedicated and competent health and safety professional who will gain an understanding of your needs and be on hand to provide any, help, advice or comment you need.

Most larger Client organisations, as part of their due-diligence responsibilities, are now requiring Contractors to undergo pre-qualification to determine their suitability to tender. The pre-qualification process can be greatly reduced if an organisation has already subscribed to a SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) scheme such as SMAS, Safe Contractor, CHAS etc.
